A Sunny Riverside Wedding at London Rowing Club, Putney
Some weddings just seem to get everything right. Sunshine? Check. Stunning riverside views? Check. Incredible food? Check. A surprise dance routine to Easy Lover? Absolutely!!
This beautiful wedding at the London Rowing Club in Putney had all of the above and then some.
The day began with the groom and his groomsmen getting ready, and while there was the usual pre-wedding excitement, there was also a top-secret mission underway. As a surprise to the bride, the boys were doing some last-minute rehearsals for a surprise dance routine planned for later in the evening.
One thing became clear very quickly throughout the day: the groom had put an incredible amount of thought into every detail. He even created an “oar-der of the day” for the day—a rowing-themed running order that raised plenty of smiles from guests. It was one of many personal touches that made the wedding feel uniquely theirs.
The ceremony took place overlooking the Thames. It was one of those perfect early summer days where the sun was delivering on providing the perfect light and leaving you just saying 'wow' every time you took in your surroundings.
The bride, Alex was from Australia, with lots of family & friends traveling over making the day even more special.
After the ceremony, guests spilled out onto the terrace for canapés and drinks while soaking up the views. It couldn't have been more perfect.
Then came one of my favourite details of the day. Instead of a traditional table plan, the groom had hand-drawn every single guest. Not only that, but he’d carefully matched everyone’s eye colour too. It was equal parts impressive, thoughtful and slightly unbelievable. Guests spent ages finding their portraits and comparing them with each other, and it quickly became one of the standout talking points of the day.
The wedding breakfast was every bit as good as it looked. Sharing platters of spiced meatballs with tabbouleh and blackened salmon with miso just hit the spot and a perfect to start up conversation as the food worked its way round.
The speeches brought plenty of laughter, a few happy tears and more than one emotional moment. The biggest round of applause was reserved for Alex's grandmother, who at 82 years old had travelled all the way from Australia to be there. Her speech was heartfelt & funny.
As the evening celebrations got underway, it was finally time for Tom and his groomsmen to reveal what they’d been secretly practising all morning. As the opening notes of Easy Lover filled the room, they launched into their surprise routine. The bride’s reaction was priceless.
As if the day hadn’t already delivered we had the most beautiful sunset over the Thames. We slipped away for a few portraits while the sky turned golden and it was the perfect chance for them to soak in such a fab day!
From guests travelling halfway around the world to hand-drawn table plans, surprise dance routines and spectacular riverside sunsets, this wedding was packed with personality from start to finish.
